Strawberry Basil Lemonade. Does that sound a little unusual to you? It is kind of different. When you first drink a sip of the lemonade you're hit with a sweet strawberry lemonade sensation, then comes the bubbles (if you used sparkling water) and then the minty fresh basil. Then you die inside of amazingness from this drink.

What is strawberry basil lemonade?
Strawberry basil lemonade uses the same base as a classic strawberry lemonade but we add the basil for an extra flavor pop. It really enhances all the other flavors- like the sweetness, tart from the lemon and strawberry flavor.

About the ingredients?
A few ingredients that you will need to make strawberry basil lemonade
- FRESH LEMON JUICE
- SUGAR
- WATER
- STRAWBERRIES
- FRESH BASIL

Use real lemon juice not store bought.
All I can say is THERE IS A DIFFERENCE. For 1.5 cups of lemon juice you will need about 6-8 large lemons.

Make a strawberry simple syrup
In a pan add your water, sugar, lemon juice, strawberries

Add your basil and bring to a boil

How long do I boil the strawberries
Boil the strawberries for 5-7 minutes. You want the strawberries nice and mushy.
Strain the strawberries and seeds from the simple syrup. I like to use a fine strainer.

Add ice water or sparkling water
It's best if you let the strawberry basil simple syrup come to room temperature then add your ice cold water.

Mix together and serve

Expert Tips
If you are traveling with the drink I recommend not combining the strawberry basil simple syrup together with water. Place it in the fridge in an air tight container. When you arrive at your destination combine the water/sparkling water with the syrup.
FAQ's
You can make this ahead! It's even better if it is made a few hours before and the flavors are allowed to merry.
If you are using sparking water however, I recommend just making the syrup ahead of time, keeping the sparkling water in the fridge and combining right before you are ready to serve
I love to garnish with strawberries, fresh strawberries and even rimming the glass with sugar!

How long does this stay good? 2-3 days in the fridge? Or is it only good the day you mix it?
Desarae says
7-10 days in the fridge.
Mare says
Ooh this was soo good and refreshing! You can tweak it if it’s alittle to sweet for you with more water or less sugar but def 10/10

Hi - when do you add the lemon juice? The directions say with the water, but the info above with the photos say when creating the syrup.
Desarae says
Sorry about that! You honestly can add it either time. I don't really notice a difference between flavors. I've changed the recipe to reflect the photos however. Thank you!

Hey, just a heads up that the recipe doesn't mention the lemon juice at all (I realized this after I was done boiling it and had to do that step again), and the blog post and recipe have different boiling times listed.
Jessica says
Working on this now, and I anticipate its deliciousness…but the directions in the blog differ from those in the recipe below. Blog says to add lemon juice before boil, recipe says after.
Desarae says
Thanks for bringing that to my attention. Ill fix that.

Never thought to put these two together but man oh man it looks beautiful!
