What is a Coke Icee?
A coke icee is a frozen coke drink made from cola carbonated soda that's has a slushy texture, somewhere between frozen and liquid. It may also be called a Slurpee, Slushie, or Frozen Coke.
You can often find them at 7-11, other convenience stores or a movie theater. At McDonalds they're called a Coke slushy,
At most commercial locations, it is made in a special patented machine that keeps the liquid at a cold temperature where it doesn't completely freeze but keeps it at a softly frozen liquid consistency.
But's easy enough to make a copycat Coke slushie you can make at home using two different pieces of kitchen equipment.

Ingredients
You don't need much to make frozen Coke at home. Here's a look at the main ingredients.
- COKE! plain a simple. You need chilled Coca Cola or another favorite cola-flavored drink.
- Coconut syrup: It's totally optional but it adds a great flavor!
- Limes: Fresh limes are best.
Variations
- Diet Coke: YES! It works great if you want to make it less calories!
- Other soda flavors: You can make a Coke slushie with any type of soda regular or diet. So feel free to experiment with making an Orange Slurpee, Mountain Dew Slushie, Frozen Sprite, and Root Beer.
- Make it creamy! Add a bit of heavy cream to the glass!
- Transform it into a gourmet coke icee! Add syrups, cream, and or fruits such as lemon, lime strawberry puree etc. It'll take your icee up to another level 100% with some of these combinations!
- coconut + lime
- pineapple, pineapple, lime and a dash of cream

- peach and strawberry
PRO TIP: Invest in some really great Torani syrups! They will last for a long time and have the best flavor.
How to Make a Coke Icee in a Blender
Probably the most accessible way to make coke icee is using coke ice cubes and a blender.
- Pour your Coke into an ice tray about ¾ full and let it freeze completely.
PRO TIP: One tray will use about one 12 ounce can of soda and then you will add another can of soda to the blender. This combination makes 2-3 servings but you can make more by freezing more trays of Coke ice cubes.
- Place all the Coke ice from tray.
- Add another 12 oz can of coke to the blender.
- Pump in the syrup and blend it up.
- Serve up your copycat Coke Slurpee with a lime and a straw!
How to Make an Icee in an Ice Cream Maker
I love using my KitchenAid ice cream maker as a slushy maker! Why I think it works better:
- Requires less steps
- Makes a thicker slushy
- Makes it more slushy
All you do is add your chilled soda to the cold ice cream maker and let it stir for 10-15 minutes.
Expert Tips
- Only fill up the ice cube trays three-quarters of the way full. The soda will expand quite a bit as it freezes.
- Use quality syrups, such as Torani, to create unique flavor combinations.
- Serve up your Coke slushie with a squeeze of lime for more flavor.
- Using an ice cream maker? Freeze ice cream bowl for at least 15 hours prior to use or follow your ice cream maker's instructions.
- Make sure the soda is chilled before blending or making in the ice cream maker.
FAQs
You want to give it enough time to freeze completely in the ice trays. You will need at least 4-6 hours but I find it's easier to fill them up and let them freeze overnight.
Yes! All you need is a blender and your favorite Coke to make one!

Using an ice cream maker is a great idea. We made these the old fashioned way - put a glass bottle of Coke in the freezer for a few hours until we’ll chilled but not yet looking frozen. When you open it it will freeze up; use a straw to drink straight out of the bottle. It takes some testing to get the timing right, and you definitely do not want to leave it in too longer it will pop the top.
