Take your grilled and smoked meats and veggies up a notch by adding homemade herb butter! It's fast and east to make and add a whole level of gourmet to your meal. Buttery, fresh herbs paired with seared tender meat is the ultimate food!

    WHAT IS HERB BUTTER?

Herb butter, also called compound butter, is when room temp butter is combined with other elements like herbs or liquids then rolled back up in parchment paper and refrigerated until it is able to be sliced. Herb butter pairs amazing with meats, veggies and breads!

WHAT INGREDIENTS DO I NEED TO MAKE HERB BUTTER

    • BUTTER!
    • herbs
    • citrus fruit

DO I USE FRESH OR DRIED HERBS?

You can use either! If you use dried herbs use only 1 teaspoon instead of 1 tbsp. Dried herbs are a lot more stronger.

DO I USE SALTED OR UNSALTED BUTTER?

You can use either! You will just need to season your meat to taste before or after depending on what you choose.

HOW TO MAKE HERB BUTTER FOR CHICKEN

Because chicken and steak are quite different I'm sharing my two favorite herb butter recipes that compliment each different meat. For the chicken we are making a cilantro lime butter.

    in a bowl add

    1. softened butter
    2. lime juice
    3. cilantro
    4. lime zest
    5. garlic
    6. stir

HOW TO MAKE SAVORY HERB BUTTER FOR STEAK

I LOVE to use deep earthy herb flavors for beef. In a bowl add

    1. room temp butter
    2. 1 TBS of thyme, oregano and rosemary
    3. 1 garlic clove

    CAN I USE DIFFERENT HERBS?

OF COURSE. Use your favorite herbs here. Parsley, basil are also great herbs in butter.

HOW TO ROLL YOUR COMPOUND BUTTER

After you have mixed your butter well add it to a piece of parchment paper or wax paper. Fold the parchment paper over the butter and using your hands shape it into a cylinder, using the parchment paper continue to roll it up.

Take your hand and press in on both ends to flatten it out.

    REFRIGERATE YOUR SAVORY BUTTER

Now that your butter is rolled up nice and snug place in the fridge for it to re-harden. If you are in a rush you can place it in the freezer (keep an eye on it). If you are making this ahead of time for a few day in advance place the parchment paper butter in a plastic wrap so the butter doesn't soak in any extra smells from the fridge.

WHAT DO I SERVE HERB BUTTER ON?

My favorite to serve herb butter on is freshly grilled meat and veggies. (Of course it goes well on a hot buttery roll too!) Take your veggies and meat and skewer them.

Season your skewers with salt and pepper. Any other seasonings you love and place them on the grill. Pull them fresh off the grill and immediately place dollops of herb butter!

HOW LONG CAN YOU KEEP COMPOUND HERB BUTTER?

In an airtight container it will keep for 5-7 days in the fridge. In the freezer it will keep for about a month.
