IS GRAPE JUICE HEALTHY?
WHAT INGREDIENTS DO YOU NEED FOR HOMEMADE GRAPE JUICE
- 2 LBS grapes
- water
- sugar
- mesh strainer, to strain unwanted pulp
CAN I SUBSTITUTE HONEY FOR SUGAR!
Absolutely! Once again, depending on how sweet and ripe your grapes are will depend the amount you will want to add. You can start by blending the grapes and water, taste test it, and then add honey till desired sweetness.
HOW TO MAKE GRAPE JUICE WITHOUT A JUICER
FIRST: Wash grapes and take them off the vines. Make sure they're sparkling clean!
STEP 2:
Now that the grapes are washed, place your water into the blender and sugar.
Add all the grapes.
Blend on your smoothie or juicing setting. I usually run 2 cycles of this so make sure there are not clumps at all.
STEP 3:
There will be bits of skin and pulp remaining in the juice. You can 100% drink the juice like this! But my kids prefer it strained. Using a fine strainer pour the juice through the strainer to remove the pulp.
HOW LONG DOES HOMEMADE GRAPE JUICE LAST
Because there are not a lot of processed preservatives or sugar added to the grape juice you need to use the grape juice 5-7 days after making it. Keep it chilled always. After about 5-7 days the grape juice will start to ferment.
CAN I FREEZE GRAPE JUICE
YES! If you are worries about not drinking the grape juice in the 5-7 days place juice in an air tight bag or container and thaw when ready to use.

In terms of nutrition, I don't understand why anyone would cook this or add sugar. I use 1 pound of burgundy grapes, wash 'em, put them in the blender with one cup of ice water for 2 minutes on high speed. Then I strain it in a fine colander with a spoon to squeeze out all the juice.I get 1.2 litres of the richest and sweetest grape juice one could ever want in just 5 minutes. Perfect over ice. Works for me. It's closer to nature.

This recipe really surprised me! I had some old wrinkly grapes to use up and was kind of worried that whatever I did with them would end up tasting bad, but didn’t want to toss (I did nibble on a few first to make sure they were edible though). The juice came out great and took less than five minutes! Doesn’t taste like traditional grape juice, of course, but it’s delicious and I’ll be saving the pulp in the freezer for smoothies

Forgot to say! I had about 50 grapes which was a little less than a pound (≈ 80 grapes according to Google). I used one cup of water and 3 tablespoons of sugar and it yielded 16 ounces of juice after the pulp was strained out. What a success!

I have been making wine at home for about a year now. Thank you for helping to debunk the mystery about wine making. Have you tried any other juices? Particularly cherry/plum?

This grape juice was wonderful. It has the perfect amount of sugar and sweetness. I have made it before with all red grapes, but this time only had half the amount of red grapes, so used green and red grapes. It still was wonderful.

Our grapes are wild with seeds. Do I need to remove the seeds before putting them in the blender?
Desarae says
I would to be safe, grape seeds may contain small amounts of toxins. If you find your grape seeds are safe just strain before serving!

I just use my crockpot to make the juice it's so easy, then you don't have to worry about removing seeds. Just fill up your crockpot with grapes add a couple cups of water cook on low a few hours smash em up a bit then strain, you can leave em on the stems and dont worry about removing seeds, just make sure you wash real good and remove any bad ones.

I love that this recipe is so simple! One question though. Since there was no heating involved that i COULD tell, how DO you keep the juice from fermenting and turning into wine? Does the juice end up tasting alcoholic at all?
Desarae says
If you keep it refrigerated, sealed and drink it within 5-7 days you'll be good! It won't go bad :) Or freeze if you cannot use by then.
Desarae says
Hi Magabelle,
You don't need to cook it, just drink it within 5-7 days to keep it from fermenting. Or freeze it.
Darlene says
Can you freeze this juice?
Desarae says
YES! Freeze in an air tight container.

Tried this today with a huge mixing bowl full of grapes from the one vine growing in my yard. (No wonder there are so many wineries in the Willamette Valley!) The juice turned out great, and it was easy enough that the kids could help make it. Both my two-year-old and six-year-old said it was "good." My wife can't stop telling me how wonderful it is. Fresh and delicious! Thanks for the tips!

Thanks for a great idea! I'm always tossing old grapes into the compost pile, now I can enjoy the juice! Try using a little stevia instead of sugar for a healthier drink.
