This is possibly the easiest best crowd pleaser ever! Every time I make this lime slushie its devoured so quickly. Lemon-limey without being too tart, perfect sweetness and, of course, the best part, icee slushie-ness. It's perfect for all holidays, parties, BBQ's and get togethers.
WHAT IS A SLUSHIE?
A slushie is similar to flavored ice- and not just ice cubes, more like snow cone ice. In this drink it has a snow-cone ice + carbonated drink paired with it.
WHAT INGREDIENTS DO I NEED TO MAKE THIS SLUSHIE?
- frozen limeade concentrate
- water
- sugar
- limes for garnish
- bubble drink
WHY DO I NEED TO ADD ADDITIONAL SUGAR FOR THIS LIME SLUSHIE
Sugar is a key ingredient for making the slush become slush. The limeade sugar syrup will freeze differently without the sugar- not allowing you to break it up to become slush. Trust me. I've tried making this without the sugar and it just doesn't work.
HOW CAN I REDUCE THE SUGAR?
The original recipe calls for the slush to be combined with a lemon-lime soda. However, if you are looking for a less sweet drink try combing it with just sparkling water. I prefer it this way actually. It's still plenty sweet without being overpowering-ly sweet.
HOW TO MAKE THE LIMEADE SLUSH
- In a large container add your water.
- Add sugar
- Add limeade
- and stir.
CAN I MAKE A SMALLER BATCH?
YES! I often will divide this up for smaller parties. It can easily be divided into 3rds. Use ¼ cup limeade concentrate, 1 cup sugar and 3.5 cups of water.
FREEZING YOUR SLUSHIE
In a air tight container place your limeade syrup in the freezer. It needs to freeze 24-48 hours, depending on your container. If your syrup is not thick it can be closer to 24 hours. IF it is compact and thick it will take longer to freeze.
PROTIP: if you are in a hurry freeze in smaller containers for 24 hours.
THAWING YOUR SLUSHIE
Thaw your slushie for about 30-60 minutes. Use a fork to chop it up.
- Add your slishie mixture to a punch bowl.
- Start by putting in the frozen chopped up limeade mixtures.
- Then add your sparkling liquid.
Gently stir until combined.
HOW TO I SERVE LIME SLUSHIE
Serve the slushie in smaller cups. You can use lime wedges, mint or lemon wedges as garnish.
