Cake shake in a Sunday glass topped with whipped cream and a cherry.

    Why This Recipe Works

My first introduction to the fusion of cake and ice cream was at Portillo's in Buena Park. They are famous for their chocolate cake shakes. If you like birthday cake and ice cream, you are going to love them blended together. This recipe comes together in minutes and it so dang good.

    About The Ingredients

This recipe comes together with simple ingredients from your local grocery store.

Ingredients needed for cake shake on a wooden cutting board.

Cupcakes - you can use homemade or store bought. Both taste delicious. Make sure they are frosted. Those little bits of cake in your shake are pure heaven.

Vanilla Ice Cream - opt for a high quality ice cream as this is the base of this dessert.

Milk - I like to use whole milk for shakes, because it makes them extra creamy and delicious.

A complete list of ingredients in located in the recipe card.

How to Make A Birthday Cake Shake

How to make a cake shake.

Step 1: Add milk to your blender. When using a blender you always want to put the liquids at the bottom. This helps the blade turn and blend more smoothly.

Step 2: Pour in vanilla extract. This will give the shake and extra vanilla flavor.

Step 3: Add ice cream to your blender jar.

Step 4: Add in sprinkles and cupcakes. Pulse in the blender just until mixed, leaving some chunks of cake.

Step 5: Pour into a tall glass. If you want to rim your glass with sprinkles I recommend dipping the rip in whipped cream and then rolling with sprinkles.

Step 6: Top with whipped cream.

Step 7: Add a few more sprinkles.

Step 8: Add a cherry on top and devour.
