Are you looking for a delicious healthy boost? Something to cure your sweet tooth (with out eating any processed sugar), fill you up, and is power packed with tons of vitamins and minerals? Acai smoothie bowls are IT! We love them in our house. We love to pick them up on the go, or make them for our breakfast, afternoon snack whenever we feel like it. It's a great way to get back on track for the new year!

This post is in partnership with Dole Sunshine #DoleDetox #SharetheSunshine

    Are Acai bowls healthy?

Acai (pronounced ah-sigh-ee) is the richest form of anti-oxidants, amino acids, vitamin c, A, B1, B2, B3 and E. Calcium, copper, magnesium and zinc. So YES! It is healthy. When you buy your own packets and make smoothie bowls at home you can control the sugar and ingredients. You are using all fruit and it's all natural sugar and not process sugar so its better for your body.

How do I make an acai bowl at home?

Making acai bowls at home are incredibly easy! You need a blender and all your favorite fruits!

What goes in an acai bowl?

    • Acai packets ( I like sambazon acai + guarana frozen packets)
    • Frozen fruit!  I love DOLE because they use the freshest fruit and their fruit is chopped small and evenly so the blender blends it nice and even.
    • 100% juice, or a liquid of your choice. ( I used DOLE 100% pineapple juice)

My favorite flavor acai bowl combo is a Mango Madness Acai Bowl, I'm going to show you the perfect ingredients for it.

    Step One: Add Liquid

First in your blender add your liquid, I used this 100% pineapple juice. This will help the blades turning with all the frozen fruit.

    Step Two: Add frozen fruit

Add your frozen fruit to the blender. I use a blend of peaches, strawberries, mango and pineapple.

    Step Three: Add Acai

You can add 1-4 packets for this recipe, if you are using the same acai as pictured. Otherwise follow the directions on your box.

    Step Four: Blend

Acai bowls are usually really thick, almost like an ice cream texture so try not to add too much liquid. But, do it as your blender can handle it!

How do I make my acai bowl thicker?

Using frozen fruit and as little liquid as possible will help make your acai bowl to be thick, however, if you are like me, my blender cannot make it as thick as I love.  I will make it little bit ahead of time, transfer to an air tight container and freeze it! Scoop it out at any time and add your fresh fruit to the top!

What toppings do I use for an acai bowl?

I prefer to use the same toppings that went into the blender on top- but FRESH. So I used fresh mango, pineapple and strawberry. You can always throw on extra berries.

Granola, shredded coconut, honey or agave go with ANY fruit combination.

Try using other brands of acai since you prefer freshest. Sambazon acai is reprocessed in USA and uses the least fresh acai of major acai suppliers from the Brazilian Amazon. This is why you find so many other unnecessary additives in their products. Look for Product of Brazil on your acai puree packs, otherwise it is not fresh.
