    Everything you love about the classic California roll - in a bowl!  This sushi bowl recipe combines sticky white rice, crisp cucumber, creamy avocado, and hearty crab together for a quick, light, and delicious meal.

    Bowls are the new plates.  It's true.  Martha Stewart said it, so it's true.  Ha ha!  Really though!  Have you noticed how popular meals served in bowls have become? Today I'm serving up a California roll...in a bowl.  Who is a sushi lover out there?  If I'm being honest - I'm pretty reserved when it comes to sushi.  No sashimi for me.  I'll stick to the spicy crab rolls and shrimp tempura rolls.  The California roll is your standard, safe, roll.  It was the first sushi roll I ever tasted and I still enjoy them.  Served deconstructed in a bowl is a modern twist on the classic taste.

    What Do I Need To Make This Sushi Bowl Recipe?

    You'll need:

    • cooked white rice
    • cucumber
    • avocado
    • imitation crab meat
    • black sesame seeds
    • BRIANNAS Organic Honey Ginger Vinaigrette

    How Do I Make A California Roll Sushi Bowl?

    1. Prepare your white rice.  For tips on making perfect rice - check out a few tips from our recent post.
    2. Place cooked rice in the bottom of you bowl.
    3. Add diced cucumber, imitation crab, and avocado.
    4. Top with sesame seeds and a drizzle of BRIANNAS Organic Honey Ginger Vinaigrette.  It is the perfect finishing touch to this sushi bowl.

    Pro Tip: Black sesame seeds can be difficult to find.  You can purchase them online, or you can substitute white sesame seeds that are readily available.

    Sushi Bowl Q&A

    What is the difference between a sushi bowl and a poke bowl?

    Poke is a Hawaiian dish that includes a raw fish (often tuna) salad served in a bowl with a variety of flavorings and toppings. A sushi bowl is a Japanese dish served with white rice, fish, and a variety of toppings.  They sound pretty dang similar - but the flavors and spices are very different.

    Is a sushi bowl good for me?

    Sushi bowls are very good for you.  They contain fresh, minimal ingredients.

    Is a sushi bowl raw fish?

    Sushi is Not Raw Fish. Sashimi is raw fish. Sushi is any food dish consisting of vinegared rice, usually served with other toppings.

    Ingredients

    • 2 cups cooked white rice
    • 1 cucumber diced
    • 1 avocado diced
    • 24 ounces imitation crab meat chopped
    • ⅛ cup black sesame seeds
    • 6 tablespoon BRIANNAS honey ginger vinaigrette
    • 12 tablespoon soy sauce

    Instructions

    • Assemble bowl by placing rice, cucumber, avocado, and crab next to each other.
    • Sprinkle with sesame seeds and drizzle with BRIANNAS Organic Honey Ginger Vinaigrette and soy sauce.
