Ingredients

  • 8 ounces cream cheese softened
  • 1 cup brown sugar
  • 4 ounces toffee bars (like Heath) crumbled (4 oz + 2 standard sized candy bars)
  • Apples sliced

Instructions

  • Start by crumbling your toffee bar. I like to do this by placing the candy bars in a zipper bag and rolling a rolling pin over it.
  • Combine softened cream cheese and sugar in a mixing bowl.
  • With a hand or stand mixer, mix until creamy and well combined.
  • Add in toffee pieces and stir to combine.
  • Serve with apple slices.

Toffee Apple Dip Q&A

How to you prevent apples from turning brown?
Toss your apple slices in lemon or lime juice.  You can also toss them in a salt water solution.  Both of these methods work for preventing apple slices from turning brown.

Why do packaged apples not turn brown?
Packaged apples found already sliced in your local produce section are usually treated with a solution of calcium ascorbate or citric acid to maintain freshness and color. Both are very safe to use on fruit that will be consumed. This is the same method as tossing with lemon or lime juice.

How long does the dip and apples last?
The dip will last 10 days in an airtight container in the fridge.
Apple slices last 4-5 days in an airtight container in the fridge if they've been treated with citrus juice.

Can I use toffee bit rather than crumbling a toffee bar?
I have tried this and you just don't get the same delicious texture and taste as using an actual candy bar.  So I recommend going with the crumble method.

What kind of apples should I use?
I like a mix of green and red apples for this dip.  It is also delicious with sliced pears, graham crackers, and ginger snaps.
