  • 4 cup Corn Chex cereal
  • 3 cup Rice Chex cereal
  • 2 cup pretzels
  • ½ cup sliced almonds
  • 1 cup butter
  • 1 ½ cup sugar
  • ½ cup light corn syrup
  • 1-2 cup Reese's Pieces

Instructions

  • Mix cereals, pretzels and almonds in large heat proof bowl.
  • Melt butter in heavy saucepan, add sugar and corn syrup. Stir continuously and boil for 2 minutes. Do not boil longer, or it will harden too much when cooled.
  • Pour sugar mixture over cereal mixture, stir to coat.
  • When chex mix has mostly cooled to warm, add Reese's Pieces.
  • Serve immediately or package up to give away. If it hardens too much, warm for 10-20 seconds in microwave until soft.

OTHER FAQ'S

AFTER MY CHEX MIX COOLED IT WAS SUPER HARD
This means that it was boiled too long so the sugar came to a higher boiling point where it is at a "hard candy" state. You can remedy this by placing it in the microwave for a few seconds and it will soften up. As it cools however it will re-harden.
WHAT IS A GOOD BOWL FOR MIXING THE HOT SYRUP AND CANDY IN?
Don't use plastic! It will melt. You can use a glass or oven proof bowl, metal or wood works also!

IS THIS GLUTEN-FREE?

For the recipe to be 100% gluten free you need to either omit the pretzels or substitute them for gluten-free pretzels. Chex cereal, almonds and the syrup is all gluten free. So double check your candy and any other add-ins you choose for wheat.
