We have a special treat for you today.. Julia Mirabella fellow foodie and author of "Mason Jar Salads and More" is joining us with a fun Q&A session. She is not only sharing some healthy lifestyle tips, but a recipe from her book as well as giving one away! I shared my love for her cookbook on Instagram a few weeks ago and know you guys will love it as well! What started your journey of writing “Mason Jar Salads and More”? After finishing law school in 2012, I took a year-long . . .
Who else buys those applesauce squeeze-packs in bulk from Costco? My kid loves them, and I love that he's basically eating an apple while I'm grocery shopping, driving, at church, or this past weekend, at the lake. What I don't love (well, more what my husband doesn't love) is the cost of those things. And when you really start to think about it, it's quite a bit of environmental waste for something you could be reusing. Enter Laura, our Healthy Mama this week. She and her husband came up . . .
There are few things I enjoy more than a perfectly grilled steak. I love grilled meals period. Fast, tasty, and easy! My husband and I use a gas grill. We started off with charcoal, but converted to gas because of the convenience. No pre-heating, no waiting, just turn it on and go. Another thing I love about grilling is it give the family a chance to hang out outside while dinner is being cooked. Here's my oldest little goofball cruising' the patio in his cozy coupe after church while . . .
Hi! I’m Robin: wife and mom of 3 little ones! We LOVE to eat and do a LOT of it. I have a BIG SWEET tooth so I ALWAYS find myself craving treats. But I hate the feeling of eating sugar all day long and after having kids I realized eating sugar all day is not helpful…Sugar crashes with kids can be less than ideal:) So whenever I can, I feed my sweet tooth through healthy options. One of my tricks is fruit. My kids LOVE fruit! Its sweet. Its fresh. It’s healthier than processed treats . . .
I'm a beginning gardener. I love the idea of growing my own food and having fresh fruits and vegetables. We currently don't have the space to have a full blown garden but I have found a patch of dirt where I made my herb garden. I love using fresh herbs in my recipes. It's so nice to walk out the door and pick what I need. I seriously can taste a huge difference using fresh herbs compared to using those jars of dried herbs. Gardening has been something I grew up watching my mom do. I . . .
Several years back I discovered a company called Lush. Have you heard of them? They are a company that makes fresh, handmade cosmetics. Their stores smell like heaven, and you'll be pampered once you step one foot inside. The first time I ever visited a Lush store was in Pasadena, CA. Both my husband and I got his hands exfoliated and massaged - just for stopping by. Of course my bill by the time I left the store definitely paid for that pamper session. Lush does something that . . .
Some things are just easier demonstrated... like how to chiffonade basil. Really is an easy technique but the name "Chiffonade" can be intimidating. The term "Chiffonade" is French simply means to cut into little ribbons. Basil is the most common herb associated with this term. The small ribbons of herb make for an insane garnish... such as on this Pasta Alla Checca. One of my favorites. I tend to buy loads of fresh herbs so use this technique regularly. I hope you enjoy this charming video... . . .
This year getting neighbor gifts out the door turned out to be a challenge...and truth be told they still haven't been delivered. The day after Thanksgiving I gave birth to the my second child - another perfect little boy. He arrived a few weeks early, so all of the last minute items I had planned on doing before his birth either got pushed to the back of the list or simplified. Because I'm sleep deprived and too busy staring at a perfect little baby face - I knew I would never get a . . .
What is it about flowers? They are magical ya know? They brighten up your table, smell up a room, make awkward conversation comfortable, turn your house into an organic, natural, beautiful space. Some friends have the theory that flowers are a waste of money. So, if you feel this way- find cheap flowers- cheap flowers still have magical powers. Don't go to the regular over-priced grocery store. Shop at co-ops, (or trader joes sometimes has pretty good . . .
I feel like to tell my kitchen table story properly I need to start at the beginning. Way back when we had one child (and one more on the way) we were also starting the grand adventure of law school. For our big move across country we wanted to save as much money as possible on a truck and sell all our furniture then buy new or used when we got to our destination. We arrived, bought craigslist leather couches and a brand spankin new table. My pride and joy for like 2 weeks. It was kind of . . .
