    Orange Cranberry Sauce

    Homemade Cranberry sauce is seriously one of the most underrated foods during the holidays. It is sweet, its tangy its just soooo yummy. It's not only for your turkey. There are several different ways to serve cranberry sauce. Take your sauce up a notch by making this orange cranberry sauce!

    WHY MAKE HOMEMADE CRANBERRY SAUCE

    My mom will NEVER buy canned, always homemade cranberry sauce. And homemade is BOMB! This is just as easy as opening  a can, trust me. and healthier. and tastier. It won't have preservatives or a funny texture like the canned. 

    You can do it 2 ways. With Orange Juice or Water. Orange Juice version is a little more flavor depth and kinda my favorite. Both are delicious! And if your a novice cook or just not a cook at all and need to contribute to the family dinner, take dibs on the cranberry sauce! I promise you, you will be able to handle it! And you can make it way in advance!

    WHAT INGREDIENTS DO I NEED FOR ORANGE CRANBERRY SAUCE?

    • FRESH CRANBERRIES
    • ORANGE JUICE
    • SUGAR
    • NUTMEG
    • CINNAMON
    • CINNAMON STICKS

    CAN I USE FROZEN ORANGE JUICE CONCENTRATE?

    Yes, Make the orange juice as the package instructs. Then use 1 cup of orange juice.

    HOW TO MAKE HOMEMADE ORANGE CRANBERRY SAUCE

    1. In a sauce pan add your orange juice bring to a boil.
    2. mix in your sugar until dissolved
    3. Stir in your nutmeg and cinnamon
    4. stir together

    SIMMER YOUR ORANGE CRANBERRY SAUCE

    1. Bring your orange juice to a boil and add your cranberries.
    2. add your cinnamon sticks
    3. if you want an added punch of orange flavor you can add some orange zest too!
    4. Let the cranberries boil for a few minutes, you will start to see and hear the berries pop and sizzle!!
    5. Simmer your cranberries for 10 minutes

    LET CRANBERRY SAUCE SIT

    Remove the cranberry sauce from the heat and let it sit. It will start to thicken as it stands.

    HOW DO I MAKE MY CRANBERRY SAUCE LESS CHUNKY?

    The cranberry sauce will be kinda chunky right after simmering. You can use a tool to help it bread down. I used a pastry cutter, or a potato masher. You can also place it in a blender, food processor or an immersion blender.

    HOW DO I STORE CRANBERRY SAUCE?

    Place the cranberry sauce in an airtight container and in the refrigerator.

    CAN I MAKE CRANBERRY SAUCE AHEAD?

    Yes! you can make it a couple days in advance. Just store it in an airtight container and refrigerator.

    3 WAYS TO SERVE ORANGE CRANBERRY SAUCE.

    1. With your turkey! yes, most popular and pairs perfectly with that savory turkey. but also try...
    2. a cheeseboard! it taste amazing on baked brie, or soft cheese and crackers.
    3. BREAD! Spread it on a warm homemade roll or on a baguette with some burrata or other cheese.

    Ingredients

    • 12 oz Whole Cranberries
    • 1 cup Sugar
    • 1 cup Orange Juice or water
    • 1-2 Cinnamon Sticks
    • 1 teaspoon Ground Cinnamon
    • 1 teaspoon Nutmeg

    Instructions

    • In a small sauce pan, bring water or orange juice to a boil.
    • Add sugar and whisk til dissolved.
    • Mix in ground cinnamon, nutmeg and cinnamon stick.
    • Add cranberries and lower heat and allow to simmer until berries have burst and softened.
    • Stir occasionally, about 10 mins. Remove from heat, sauce will thicken as it cools. Remove cinnamon sticks before serving or storing.

      Do you leave the cinnamon sticks in the sauce when you refrigerate it?
