Tis the season for pie!!!! With the holidays right around the corner I wanted to offer up an easy alternative to your traditional pie. A slab pie has all of the components of a regular pie, except it feeds a crowd. A slab pie is perfect for a big family gathering or a friends-giving. I created this recipe from start to finish with my KitchenAid Stand Mixer. My kitchenAid mixer is a staple in my kitchen. Besides cakes and cookies, I love to shred chicken and make dips and frostings in . . .
Caramel apples are the best. They scream county fair and fall weather to me. But caramel apples with HOMEMADE caramel are amazing and they are screamin' your name. Crispy tart apples, buttery gooey caramel and crunchy chocolate candy bits. What is not to like? I once had a neighbor, who, every year would invite friends over to make their own caramel apples on halloween. It didn't matter if you were just dropping by to make an apple or staying to chat and hang for a while- she just wanted you . . .
I kinda love to experiment with exotic spices. It all started with my love of Indian food! One time, while at my favorite Indian place in Utah I asked the lanky 14-year-old boy what the main spice was in the Tikka Masala I loved so much. He held his finger up, skipped to the back kitchen, and came back to me. He leaned in and pronounced, "Garam masala." These muffins do not have garam masala thankyouverymuch, but they do have another exotic Indian spice in them: cardamom! It's really . . .
Let's be honest here, apples are boring. I mean really, who wakes up in the morning and says, "Self, let's go big today. Let's get an apple." I'm about to change that.My favorite used to be apples with a side of peanut butter or slices of sharp cheddar. Mmm. Still good. But this has taken place as my new current favorite. Cinnamon Honey Cashew Butter. Probably 3 minutes start to finish. Process some cashews until soft, add some coconut oil, a little salt, some cinnamon, and creamed . . .
Apple pie is one of those pies that even pie haters love. Its always good to have a nice, classic (but amazing) apple pie recipe in your recipe box. This is one I have been making for years. It's my kids favorite kind of pie. WELL scratch that, they really like chocolate pie. I'd say apple and chocolate pie tie in the running for very favorite pie. The ingredients are for one pie, and same with the instructions in the recipe card. But if you have mini pie plates, or mini pie liners like I . . .
Today I'm sharing a family recipe. My mother has a notebook that is packet with recipes. Papers jut out in every direction with recipes scribbled on them. Some are typed, some torn from magazines, many on eclectic recipes cards from friends. This binder is a treasure chest of recipes. I love flipping through it and finding old favorites and recipes that remind me of the past times. I even found a recipe for an Orange Julius that I had written when I was probably 12 or 13 years old. A few months . . .
To be perfectly honest, this year we are all wicked busy. We didn't really have time to get together and plan a whole scary halloween bash...boo. Not even all of us could get together. Steph is clear accross the country living it up in fall leaves, while we are burning up from hot,dry Santa Ana winds. and Carly had to leave town. So 4 of us decided to put together some new ideas on old recipes...that are SUPER easy. So, if you are like us and dont have time to make homemade . . .
