Here in Southern California we have some beautiful hikes along the coast. Well I imagine every coast has breathtaking shorelines and hikes, but i get to experience them here. It is so peaceful to spend an evening out in nature, especially with 4 crazy little kids. If you have ever been around kids you know how noisy and busy they are. Nature and kids just plain go together. Outside I’m not reminding them to “use their quiet voice” or stopping Jack from jumping, and the boys are too distracted to hit each other.
For an evening last week we decided to escape the confines of our small home where noise is amplified and go to the great outdoors. We took with us a picnic dinner and some great products from JJ Cole to make it all happen. They provided us with the following.
Y’all know I recently had a baby, he is now 2 months old! eee. Little babies make big family outings difficult! Hiking up and down the mountain isn’t exactly stroller capable. I actually reallllly loved this medley carrier. We have a bijorn and i recieve no back support from it. I climbed up and down and unpacked and packed food all with this baby on and it was so comfy, not strenuous at all.
we also love this pacifier clip.
This beautiful outdoor blanket.
I actually really really love this outdoor blanket I have a similar one in a different brand that zips. UGH that dang zipper. It’s so annoying. Aubrey’s zipper even broke. So then what do you do? JJ Cole’s blanket just folds up so easy (its not origami science) and velcros closed.
My goal for our dinner was to keep everything simple. Feeding a family of 6 = a lot of food. Which then means bags on bags of food. I really didn’t want that. SO I used their big Camber bag and mason jars to pack our dinner. For the mason jars that contained the cold items I used their awesome bottle cooler.
The camber bag was perfect. I put all my food in there perfectly. Nate (my husband) carried some drinks and bag, the girl carried the blanket, the boys carried the bottle cooler, I got the baby and everything was manageable. The hike was pretty steep even for a little bit.
ok, for the food! I wanted filling yet compact dishes. I decided to do a Mason Jar Picnic! Stay Tuned- tomorrow I’ll show how we pulled this off!
